Some notes on the 2009 Ponta grab bags
January 1, 2009
I don't really know why I bother with my shit luck.
Well after many troubles with the grab bags it seems Gamepot did a ton of maintenance and they seem to be working now. The bad news? You aren’t guaranteed to receive a “rare” in each one. I thought you were but I guess not as you can see by the image above I got a bunch of crap (but at least I was able to convert 2 of those things into gacha tickets and now I have enough for just 1 more scratch ^^;) The bag costs 50 cookies (approx $5.30 USD =_=;) and well unless you have money to burn I wouldn’t really bother with it at this point. The only thing I really wanted to get was a set of fairy wings for ANY character (even Daisuke!) but yea I have the worst luck with these things so I didn’t get crap. Don’t forget that if you buy a grab bag, you will automatically be entered in yet another lottery to win prizes such as bread master lees and the sukepon caddie (the transparent papel.) You gotta scroll down and login with your pangya username/pw to get your “ticket number”. On the 8th they will announce the winning ticket numbers and you will receive your prize on the 15th. Good luck all! (although I’m going to need it probably more than anybody else…)

Yeah same here. I bought 6 grab bags (300 cookies) and got a lot of crap too xD
The rare I wanted was Lucia’s elfen ears but when I saw (like you) that you don’t win a rare with each bag I totally cancel that…
With the cost of those things I really thought you will win at least a rare for two bags but…
*sob* Money, money…
wow you got 6 bags and didn’t win a single rare? Damn that sucks x_X
Speaking about scratch cards, I don’t know if its only me but after those numerous maintenance breaks they just don’t work any more…
oh really? o_o; im only referring to the gacha to ponta ones (which you need 10 of to do 1 scratch)
So do I, after clicking the first button on ponta window instead of another button to click (as far as I remember) the window goes blank with this stupid “broken picture” icon in a top left corner…
erm that could be the server thing then, I’m sure they’ll fix it eventually lol
2 bags..and nothing good T_T…I just want at least a costume! ><”
Wow that sucks low chances or what? lol
Well who knows? =3 I might try 2 more bags…temptation is too strong to resist ><”
ok i just read on the forums people listed how much they got and someone’s like
200 bags = 9 rares
20 bags = 1 rare
Really, do you want to bother? O_o
Holy crap 200 bag is like >1000$ thats very very expensive, according to this rate a rare cost around 100$ OMG, i thought japanese odds were better than any other server but actually it’s not.
Maybe for the normal scratching it is, but I heard they got worse and with this new years bag its pathetic. I think some people bought one in fear that if they didn’t Pangya would close lol
The only reason I suspect that they can get away with the horrible rates is that people really want those fairy wings >_>. And I’m willing to bet the odds for individual rares are different too, like Daisuke’s Halloween outfit being the most common but I’m not exactly about to test my theories out. XD;
haha did you ever get your one bag back? What did you get out of it? I wanted fairy wings too but with the low chances + shitty exchange rate, nooo thank you.
Well, I probably got drugs out of it, but I never really noticed any increase in my inventory so who knows. I ended up buying a few more bags because I’m insane (and to see what the drop rate was…out of morbid curiousity) and actually got a decent rare (Erika’s Witch outfit) and decided that I wasn’t going to push my luck any further.
At least you got 100 balls though, that was a nice bonus, I seriously have over 100 of those +15y pots. Puhlease. You can’t even exchange them for anything.
And yeah..I wanted fairy wings too…or one of the rings…
Pangya would close cause people don’t buy Christmas Bags? Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought that Pangya is one of the most popular MMO games in Japan and judging by pure numbers of servers, its more popular than in its Country of origin – Korea. BTW did someone tried gatcha no ponta scratches ? Are they still don’t work or I’m the only one with the bad luck :/.
Hinano, if I’m reading the same thread as you are, I don’t think the rare rate is quite so bad as 200 boxes for 9 rares.
From what I have read, it looks to be around 15-20% chance of getting a rare per bag. Which is still way too low for 50 CP though.
And all the people in the thread I’m reading have spent between 20000-50000 yen, so for anyone looking to gamble, that seems to be the area for which you’ll get a few rares.
For more calculations, if you’re looking for a specific rare, such as the elusive Fairy Wings for say, Arin, assuming that all rares drop equally, at a 20% rate, that you have none of the rares currently on offer (as you cannot get doubles of identical rares), you’re looking at just a [0.2 * 0.189...] 0.3566% chance or, expressed as a fraction 1/3566.
Abysmal.
(Of course if you already have most of the items in the list already, then your chances of getting a specific rare are definitely improved and MAY be worth it since hey, if you’ve already spent so much getting ecard rares, then you might as well go for it..right?)
Problem solved, well sort of… It appears that IE6 on my Windows XP is screwed up and to my surprise I can’t install IE7 or IE8. Thank God that I had Vista on other HDD (testing purposes – my shitty computer can’t handle Vista for daily use) and gatcha ponta worked on that one. I got 10 duostars and 100 breadmasterlees though… ;_;.
aw haha…I’m saving my scratch for next time, I have no interest in the snowflake outfits
Yeah I noticed the rares have definitely gotten worse. I preferred jpangya over kpangya because the rare rates were much higher. I figured this is justified by the substantial difference in cost per ticket. Seems like they’re making rare rates lower so people dump more money into the game and it is a fairly easy and subtle change for them to make really. Good for the business and bad for us I guess. Now I feel like I’m paying exhorbent money per ticket for rates that are dwindling down to the other pangyas. On another note I remember using 160 tickets on kpangya and not getting a single rare; does that sound right? I think I did get a lot closer to carpal tunnel though.
Having said that I think I am still going to buy a bag or two because I hate myself for starting jpangya 2 months after the magical girl outfits. They’re so colorful and cute
You cannot compare Korea and Japan’s lottery so easily… Of course Japan’s lotto will have a higher rate to win because you are paying money for those tickets.
Getting scratch cards over on Korea is very easy to get without buying any cookies at all. Black Papel lotto right now increased the chances of winning small green tickets now, and players who play approach mode regularly can earn scratch tickets too. And you could also get them from treasure boxes. So for something that’s so easy to obtain, then it makes sense to make it harder to earn it for the players. A good hint is finding the perfect time and server to scratch away your tickets, but that’s all I will say for that.
There’s no way to compare which two servers are superior all because of the lottery system that revolves around “luck”. Each person will always have their different perspective on their lucky or bad draws to make their statement on which is better.

There’s really little point on going for the 2009 grab bags unless you own over 80% of the rares for that year. If you do manage to win a rare, it could be an item that’s not worth it to you.
It was a point of personal preference; nothing more. If I were to compare the drop rate of Japan’s recent rares to earlier in the year, I still think it isn’t what it used to be. I started noticing it at around the time hybrid rings were out. It may be because the pool was much smaller at that time; actually I am not even sure since I did not get a single ring and I don’t know if the rings are restricted to characters. I skipped the halloween rares and went for the snow outfits. It was even worse in December, while the pool was twice as large. For perspective’s sake, it took me about 5x more tickets to get my first rare in December than it did earlier in the year. Five times more tickets while each ticket costs the same as before is a significant increase to monetary investment for a rare. I really hope this is just bad luck and not the beginning of a trend.
I’ll take your advice and skip the grab bags. It’s too much money for too small a chance to get 1 item out of a pool of too many items.
BTW Sweatdrop, since I didn’t know how to post on your blog before; Thanks for all the info. I’ve used your site since the zoints days and it’s been a really good source of info for pangya. I think if it weren’t for your blog, I’d still be on A18 right now–and let’s just say I am glad I am not.
